It's been a long week, a bit bumpy, lots of high points, but sometimes sad enough to make grown men cry, (sometimes it's good to know that the grown men I'm around can still cry). The down point was Tuesday night when two 17 year old boys speared 13 koi out of our Community College's koi pond and brutally beat and hacked them to death. They were caught on video tape and quickly arrested the next day. When asked why... they offered just shrugs.These were 40 year old fish that we all knew and loved very much. I heard people say that "They were just fish..." but they knew me and my daughter and would come the the ponds edge to meet us and suck on her fingers in greeting. 40 years is a long time to think even if it was just fish thoughts...

This is such a sad commentary on the way some of the youth of our country are going. Where was their conscience? Wesley and I met some Koi at the botanical gardens in Montreal and we loved them, I can't imagine having visited these fish frequently and then hear this news. So very sad for you!
That is terrible! Koi are like dogs and cats. They are pets and have friends. I'm teary eyed. I am so sorry.

I think there is a special place in hell for people that torture animals. I'm so sorry about the koi. That's a total bummer, and what the hell were they thinking?! A shrug is not a good enough response... I hope they can get the real reason out of them in court.
So sorry for the loss of your koi friends, all living things have thoughts and feelings. That kind of cruelty shows deep seated anger and lack of respect for life in general, not just "the fish".
What a horrible awful thing to hear.I agree with Becky Jo. There is most definitely a special place in hell for people who are that cruel to animals. It always saddens me to hear of teens behaving this way. I have two teens of my own, who have been taught to respect the earth, and the many creatures on it. It is not a difficult lesson to teach. Cruelty of such magnitude baffles me. Your poor daughter must be devastated.
