Fried is What I Got
When it rains... it pours...
It didn't take writing my first business plan point out that relying on a single kiln was an unwise weakness to expose my business to, especially an old vintage kiln held together with spit and band-aides. But hey, if kilns fell like manna from the sky... that would definitely be filed under a "Bad Day", so I've made do with what I got.
And what I got is Fried... In the process of replacing my infinite switch, I discovered a few wires that were arching, (hence the replacement of the switch), and my Mystery Noise was found to be a deteriorating interconnect receptacle plug that connects the top control panel to the bottom control panel.
So to keep from swearing and whining, I'm going to remind myself that this is a learning opportunity. It's just a massively inconvenient learning opportunity.
DOH!

The same exact thing happened to my L&L, which I believe is actually older than I am. My husband fixed the issue by hardwiring the kiln sections together instead of replacing the plug. It's a pain to move, now that it's all hooked together, but it doesn't spark and blow a breaker anymore. Good luck!
Hardwiring the sections together is the fix I'm going with. I'm not happy about it, but I'm miserable without an on site kiln.
No Onsite kiln is a pain in the a##, that is my current route. I have my new one all picked out, but can't purchase for another month, heading in to tourist season, with minor amount of stock. Thankfully I have recently hooked up with a friendly neighbour with a kiln sitting semi idle. I have been trucking my stuff back and forth to town for over a year squeezing firings in with class work. Hope your kiln fix works out.
Oh! I melted down my entire 220 outlet in the middle of last winter. Flames shooting up, melting crap falling down. Such drama.
Good luck getting back up and running again.
I've seen that happen, but I've managed to block the mental picture... thank's for that reminder John.
I've seen some good kiln deals on craig's list recently, I've been looking in the Sacramento area. Might be worth a look. Time is money! Hope things work out soon for you.
