I think I could get used to this "farm-team" studio mode...

Someone should really take the time to champion the virtues of shooting to be part of the "B team".
I totally think it's underrated.
The "A team" just promises to be a big ball of stress and
screw worrying whether there's a living to be made at this...
It's so much nicer getting a day job so you can make whatever you feel pulled to do without much thought to whether it's up to expectation or if it's going to feed the kids this week.
It makes it so much easier to just get to work.

I'd like to say that this was exactly what I was expecting to see come out of this weekend's kiln. With this series, work was put in with out preconceptions, but this is definitely lands outside of expectations.

Tap, tap, tap...

Memory of FireFlies

From conception to finished work, the R&D for "Memory of FireFlies" is a dirty little haiku made of clay.

The round robin view looks good, but I'm stumbling over some of the glaze crawling.

Not sure whether I like it, or I wish I liked it... Guess it's time to set it out where I can see it for a while and see how the character of the piece settles in.

God and Art

Opening for a much larger conversation...

I love riding ideas to out to completion.
Admittedly, not every idea or decision is good or well played.
That's the fun...
It doesn't serve an idea to start second guessing mid-stride.
My approach to serving an initial aim and accepting what transpires along the way has developed significantly over the past year.
I need to be flexible and open to possibilities.
Critique can happen along the way, but judgment is reserved for after the firing.

Non-the-less, I've been throwing more and more off center to give work more swagger and character. Yes, there's sag. Sag can be controlled to be part of the work and not simply an accident.
Yes the asymmetry can get severe.
But most notably it's been pointed out that maybe my shallow foots are inadvertently turning my "Fireflies" (that are meant to be floating in the air) into flies grounded on a lumpy turd.
The details add up to the whole.
Each decision matters...

Miwa Matrayek's Glorious Visions

Blink blink blink...
The world has been dreaming again.

Watch and take wonder...

Done dancing around... back to work.

Still pulling work out of the box and push'n it through the photo dungon.

Just over 50 small pieces, but each one feels bigger than it's size implies.

The lightning bugs need a bit more clues to communicate what they are, let alone the metaphor that I'm pursuing by using them.

Much the same can be said with the skeletons. More clues please...

When the clues are there, the game that we play together is much, much more fun.

One more layer to add to the layers that are already there. I'm searching for a tipping point.
Pull back before I tip over...

Still pawing through last weekends load to examine each piece carefully, finishing the feet to butter smooth and seeing how they look through the lens.
