I must say, I was a bit surprised when Richard wire cut the rim of the bowl he was working on. To me he just cut the life out of the form...

I've long been attracted to the nuance of form that grows from well practiced hands. Within my own work, I'm starting to find myself bored with strict adherence to symmetry.

Very interesting video. I missed going to that workshop, even thought it was about an hour away. And I don't think you lose anything by cutting the rim. I often do that.
