Nico

Here's a look at one of my favorite emerging artists.

Nico Blum

I feel very lucky, there are so many things that I learn from watching her work. She has an amazing sense of composition that can't be confined by the edges of her canvas. She is quickly gaining skills, creatively loading and manipulating a brush, and the confident and expressive use of color... WoW!

Ahhh... the joys of being 7.

This is one of her chawans fresh from the kiln.
Gonna put this girl to work this summer.

I love standing next to talent. I just hope that life won't teach it out of her.

That is some serious talent! well worth nurturing. Isn't it wonderful as a parent to watch our children explore thier talents? I am often blown away by my daughter's work, she's fourteen now and has just kept giving it all to her art since she was very small. We never tried to curb her natural instincts, and frowned heavily on teachers that did!

wow! go nico. those paintings are really nice joel... a chip off the ol' block i'd say. i was gonna say that i hope the school system doesn't squelch the creativity but i see your comment already says that. i worry about the same thing. but hey, most people don't make it to 7 and retain that kind of expressiveness. i like the flecks in the clay in the next post but wouldn't be thrilled about the extra sanding step. how does the clay throw?
