It's the difference between disappointment and finding joy in unexpected beauty.
It's easy to forget to let go of preconceived expectations when opening the kiln.
I think this is why I enjoy collaborating with my studio partner Jessica Fong. I have to relinquish control of the entire process and enjoy the portion that's mine and sit back and applaud the performance that's mine to watch.
That final state is not always as much a product of a sharp focus of intention as it is of whimsy.
In the end, When I'm lucky...
