3 and a Half Handmade Minutes

Cold and rainy out in the studio, but gotta keep moving forward or work starts dying on the shelf.

Sprigg'n

A few spriggs really can help build the narritive.

Visually, texturally, and functionally, I think these spriggs are perfect ornamental speed bumps for the surface on these 9 pounders.
On a small scale, they work great. On a larger scale, I'm hoping they will really add to the narrative of the design and literally help me get a grip on the surfaces of these larger canisters.
A year later, I'm happy to see that the Apple has fallen fairly far from the tree. Thanks for the push Dan.

Tempest

I knew this was going to be fun...

For this round, I'm playing along with using the plastic ends that are left over when I cut out billets of paper stencils.

Recent events have me  thinking uncomfortably about crows... really uncomfortably...

So I'm excising a few thoughts...

Add a few spriggs tomorrow.

Bone 'a' Peel'n

These plastic "crusts" that are left over from cutting out billets of paper stencils are turning into something with a bunch of promise...

Press 'em in and peel 'em back... repeat...
These are test trivets, going to see how the glaze and oxides pool in the recesses.
I gotta scale this up!

Rim Shots

The "Good, Bad, and the Ugly"...

RimShots of the test cups that went through last weeks cone 10 gas firing at Pate's.
Apparently ceramics is an alchemist's hobby.

Weeds & Flowers

Style'n #4
Allegory mirrors reality...

It's spring here in northern Cal. There is so much growing going on... I'm finally confident in my ability to distinguish between the promise of a weed and the potential of a flower...
I'm glad to see another season of pushing blossoms 'n' shoots and I'm learning the value of hoping to see another.

Neighbors

My fence isn't quite up to the job of screening this off...

Maybe I need a bigger fence?

Mucking Around

Sometimes the best way to get a messy job done is by making it sound like something that might be fun doing...

I really hope Sam had fun mucking out the clay trap at the UOP ceramics studio this morning... I know I got a few great laughs watching!
Here's to a job well done... Cheers Mate!
Roll in the glory.
